L&D Article Review #4

I've taken on a challenge reviewing my collection of 30 articles in 30 days and sharing with you what I've found! (Link to the article down below)

Article #4: Five Ways To Sell Your Big Idea - By Costas Markides
(I try to find free articles but this one is off of Forbes website. They usually allow a couple of free articles if you are interested but I'm not encouraging getting a subscription for this challenge).

How long it took to read? - 5 minutes

Who is it for? - Anyone who would like advice on how to sell their ideas or understand what a "need" looks like and how to capitalize on it.

What I took from this article: I don't agree with everything in this article and there's a lot I could say that might speak out against the main points: that you don't have to take all the advice you hear, that persistence and a "don't take no" mentality can often cross ethical boundaries, and reframing an idea that isn't suited might constitute as lying. The truth is I've never been a big salesperson. I agree with the first part of the article where it speaks about being credible, passionate, and relatable. However, I know that the reality of sales is that we are often asked to push something we don't believe in. Passion can only take you so far when that happens. Perhaps I'm reading too much into something or maybe even projecting my own deficiencies on the text, but I turned off when the article encouraged reframing your pitch right after attempting to sell alcohol to people against consumption. What can I say? They're not all gonna be winners...
