What I took from this article - I remember very vividly when I screwed up some feedback for a teammate. I focused on the negatives and expressed disapproval over the work. It took me some time to realize that my comments had hurt their confidence and self-esteem. It was a powerful lesson in the importance of building up your teammates. After apologizing, I practiced one of the strategies the author refers to as "responsible candor". While not perfect, I have found my communication improve significantly. Vojnovski outlines 5 tips on building others up and assuming positive intent when others speak to you. These are important skills to practice at all times. However, I feel they are even more crucial today.
