L&D Article Review #18
I was talking to someone today about accessibility in E-Learning courses 💻 I've included closed captioning and scripts on my past projects, but in hindsight, that's really the bare minimum. From now on, I'd like to push myself by integrating more inclusion and keep in mind assistive tech in my course design! This is my 30 L&D articles in 30 days challenge. (Link to article down below)
Article #18: Why I’m Prioritizing E-Learning Accessibility—and You Should Too - By Amanda Nielsen
How long it took to read? - 7 minutes
Who is it for? - Anyone who wants to learn the benefits of accessible E-Learning courses and where to get started on applying those concepts to their projects.
What I took for this article - Designers can get really attached to their projects. I remember myself saying when I first started: "I don't want arrow keys at the bottom of my page because it doesn't match my aesthetic". Even writing out that sentence is embarrassing... 😒
The courses I create are not about me but are about providing a learning opportunity for those taking them. And why wouldn't I want those courses to be accessible for every learner?! I wish newbie Russell had read Nielsen's article because then accessibility would be at the forefront of all my projects. However, after reading Nielsen's work and seeing the resources she provides at the end for those wanting to make the next steps, I'll definitely be integrating them into all my future courses!
